The Mosque of Cristo de la Luz is one of the finest examples of Islamic architecture in Toledo. The building, which was converted to a Christian temple, is a faithful reflection of the changes experienced in the city of the three cultures.

A bit about the history...

The monument was constructed in the year 999 when it was first given the name Bab al-Mardum Mosque. The the fall of the kingdom of Al Andalus, the temple was converted to a Catholic place of worship and underwent some slight remodelling, although much of its Moorish influence remains.

It is said that after the reconquest of Toledo, the Christian armies uncovered an image of a crucified Christ next to a lamp which had stayed burning for 300 years. Thus, the name was born.
