Vaux-le-Vicomte, the Palace of Louis XIV’s Minister of Finance
Between 1658 and 1661, Nicolas Fouquet, Louis XIV’s finance minister, commissioned architect Louis Le Vau to build the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte on the outskirts of Paris. This majestic palace, built in the French classical Baroque style, aroused the king’s envy, leading him to later commission Le Vau to design the Palace of Versailles as well.
With this ticket to the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, you can explore its elegant rooms at your own pace, where you’ll find a variety of curtains, lamps, tables, chairs, chests, tapestries, paintings, and countless other pieces of 17th-century furniture.
As you tour the palace, you’ll stroll through the most beautiful rooms at Vaux-le-Vicomte. Some of these rooms have served as filming locations for scenes from famous movies, such as The Man in the Iron Mask, Marie Antoinette, and 007: James Bond Moonraker.
Within the grounds of Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle, you’ll also find the Musée des Attelages, which is included in your admission ticket. Its permanent exhibition features a wide selection of carriages, wagons, and other horse-drawn vehicles used during that era.
We also recommend taking a relaxing stroll through the French-style gardens of Vaux-le-Vicomte, which cover an area of 33 hectares. Their fountains, paths winding through flowerbeds, ponds, walking trails, and mazes will captivate you from start to finish.
